PTO Assignment 12/4 – RCA Analysis

PTO Assignment In the Underground Railroad, the author Colson Whitehead highlights major themes such as Commodification and ownership. Commodification is the action or process of creating something as a mere commodity. In the book, commodification is used in all forms when it comes to colonists just looking for their profits. An example is when Cora finds out that white people were using the body of African women for their own medical experiment because they judge their bodies and selves as not important in the eye of society. Additionally, enslaved people are used to work in the plantations in order to produce and grow the colonist’s economy. Even if they are hurt and on the edge to die, the enslavers would not care at all because they see them as animals and not human beings. This is mostly the reason why they tend to sell people of color’s children because they don’t see them as a family or think that they could even feel love.   1) with my team, we thought about defining commodification first because some people might not know what it is. We also thought about using ethos to make it credible to the reader. Pathos will also be used to produce emotion to the reader when reading this essay because it is meaningful and important to many people to learn about slavery and how enslavers used commodification to treat enslaved people.  2) We also will be using cause and effects which means that we will focus on how commodification affected many enslaved people’s lives and the enslavers too, and the cause to it. Since my group focuses on the body paragraph, we will be having 3 to 5 paragraphs including 3 to 5 reasons and pieces of evidence to support each reason.
